Looking into buying my first Steiner and have questions on the better motors for these. Love the looks of the new ones but out of my price range. Is the gas or better in the 430s? Anything else I should be concerned about? Looking to buy one with less than 1000 hrs.

property is 4 acres, mostly wide open with little trees, just some hills in the back. The hills are too steep and dont want a ZTR accident. Im looking towards steiner because of the cut and the striping. Love my Simplicity broadmoor, but this will be a more useful machine.

Any advice or opinions are appreciated.

Thx.

I personally am a fan of the Kubota gas engine 25 HP,and the Kohler air cooled 25 and 27hp commands.Nothing wrong with the Kubota diesel engines, but they are underpowered in the steiner 420 and 430,IMO...the 21hp rated diesel is really an 18hp at best, look up the D721 in other applications they are 15-18hp at 3600rpm.They vibrate more than the gas engines too.I'd stay away from the Onan powered machines. The onan performer 20 was a great engine but parts are hard to find and you'd need to do a conversion if you had a major issue since the engines are no longer available.People often didn't reinstall the rubber fan shroud seal after they changed the oil, over time this caused the cylinder and block on that side to overheat and it would drop a valve seat on the rt side.
