I found I can get the Steiner Predator 4 4-16x50mm E3 Reticle for a great deal and was wondering if anyone owns one or has used one. I want it for my Ruger Precision Rifle (22LR) to use for target shooting (no matches, just shooting in the afternoon for fun) and squirrel hunting. 99.5% of the time, I will be under 125 yards (hunting even less), and the most I would ever do target shooting would be 200.
I noticed the scope has an illuminated reticle and thought in the deep woods, that could be a big help when trying to pick out a gray squirrel on a dark tree with dark crosshairs. I presume if I don't turn it on, the crosshairs are just the normal black, am I correct in that assumption? Figure I don't need it shooting targets.

Thanks

Not sure what kind of deal you've got but my daughter actually makes some money shooting and her .22 trainer has a Busnell Strike Eagle 5-25x56 on it she really likes, it was under $500. She trains from about 50 to 300 with her trainer so she works elevation/windage/zoom pretty hard and it's going on two years old now without issues. It's got an illuminated reticle, don't think she's used that much as her match rifle doesn't have one.

I only shoot target and don't put the batteries in my scopes with illuminated cross hairs. They are normal scopes if you leave the reticle power turned off.

Thanks Sea2summit. We can get the Steiner scope for about 1/2 retail so it is really reasonable. I beleive the Strike Eagle is actually Vortex product. Vortex has a pretty stong following and they do have a good warranty. The drawback that most people note is that they use chineese sourced parts and some claim they are not as durable. Of course they do have a VERY strong warranty so that offsets that problem. I also noted I can get one of them for about the same price (They also offer PRO deals). Off to do some more research....

Here are some links if anyone is interested:

Thanks - I was sort of thinking that but then with changes in technology I was not really sure.

Dagnambit, I had to look up the shipping email just to remember what it was you'd think I wouldn't have miss labeled the manufacturer.
