While I was at the local dealer ordering a part I asked the parts guy if he could get the step that is on the new 2400s. He could and I did. If you are approaching my age and girth you might want to invest in one. I am enclosing picture of the backing plate I made to distribute the weight. I never thought to ask if they sold the backing plate. I think the step was $70 plus shipping. Be careful 2-day air can be a shock when you pick up the part :)

Feel free to zing me on my rookie welding! Its a good thing I never tried to feed my family based on welding skills.

Great work! Well thought about spreading the forces over a bigger area.

I've seen worse welds and we all have to start somewhere. Don't worry about it. :thumbsup:
