STIENER S-20 HYDRAULIC PROBLEMS

I have just purchased a Stiener S-20 that worked fine. I changed the hydraulic oil and filter and now it will not drive the tractor. It seems like it has air in the system. The tractor surges and won't move smoothly. I changed the oil to Amsoil 5w30 and I filled the filter with oil before putting on. Does anyone have any ideas how I can fix this.

What kind of filter? Are you sure you got the old gasket off the filter ,it sounds as if your getting air in thru the filter. .it's all the suction side,so any time it's not tight it won't leak,but the pump will pull air and give you a surging,and noise pump operation. .make sure the filter is tight,and no leaks...should work perfect.

I used a NAPA 1553 filter, I will check to see if I got the filter on square and tight, Thank You

i snugged the filter up with a filter wrench and the tractor runs better the ever. Thank You

I had a hydraulic filter that was marked for my 430 MAX. It would not seat for reasons I never did establish. The next worked fine.

Is there an air vent on your machine as there is on mine? It is used when filling the machine so the oil can get to the far end of the tractor. When I first got my machine, I did not know what this vent was for, so I opened it. Maybe you only closed it for pond work, what did I know. Anyway, I lost most of my oil and am glad I didn't damage anything (I hope)!
