I have a standard TC35 and the FEL joystick is stiff. This occured after I was got off on the right side and my shorts caught the stick on the way down. I worked the stick back the other way and loosened it up some, but its not operating as it should. What should I look at to get it fixed?

If you haven't already done so I would remove the flexible boot and check to see if any of the linkage mechanism was bent when the joystick caught your shorts. I can't imagine any major damage to the linkage. When I place my joystick in the float position I have been known to catch mine when dismounting the tractor as well.

I did the same thing last week on my TC40D! (including the same mechanism of injury). I looked under the boot, but really don't know what I'm looking at. I am due for my 50 hour service, and I was going to ask them to take a look at the FEL Joystick.

The loader valve is just a dual remote valve with a mechanism for allowing the joystick to rotate in any direction. The internal valve and return spring are very similar to the single remote valves at the rear of the tractor. There could be some internal binding in the valve, but my guess is that it's the linkage as PineRidge stated. If you remove the rubber boot and look at the mechanism while moving the joystick, you should be able to see what is causing the joystick to bind. Some spray lube might help also.

I could post the exploded view, but it's not as clear as just removing the boot and looking directly at the dual valve.

Does the joystick not return to center/neutral when released? I had to disassemble one of my rear remote valve return springs and lubricate it. Since the joystick valve has the same mechanism, it could be related to water getting into the valve and causing it to stick. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

I had no problems until I was getting off the tractor, and my shorts slipped over the FEL Joystick as I was climbing off. Nearly my full weight pulled the joystick into the dump and drop position of the FEL. You could probably consider this a "stress test for the No-Joy Joystick" Although the joystick didn't break, ever since then the dump/curl doesn't return to neutral without assistance, and the lift and drop needs a little encouragement to return to neutral. I hope with a little lubrication they'll get better, but I'm worried that I bent the valve rods.

Thats what happened to me, and mine was stiff in all directions so pulled the joystick back to the full raise/curl back and gave it a little extra push. Now, it works ok in every direction except when I curl the bucket back, it doesn't want to spring back to neutral.
