For those of you thinking about a saw and size limitations - this was my weekend project with my stihl 025. 60+ foot oak with 6' diameter base.

Lots of planning, discussion of safety proceedures and a little tug with my Ford 150 4x4.

Winter wood for 06/07.

regards,

lloyd

6' diameter base? I don't see that tree.

Or 6' in circumference?

The last of the 4 pics showed up real well. You can edit and delete the others if you'd like. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

I also question where the 6' tree is? You would neet a saw with at least a 3 foot bar and that ain't small. The one in the first picture maybe 2 feet across but that is only 3.14 feet around.

Highbeam
2' diam would be 2xpi or 2 x 3.14 = 6.28 feet around. So that may be the 6' in circumference, and 2' diameter he is speaking of and showing. He's a BIG guy if that tree is 6' diameter. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

You guys are correct - circumference. I realized after I posted the termonology was wrong but was more concerned with the image quality.

So, knowing that, does that mean I am little. Wait till I tell the wife...
she says I can afford to loose a few pounds.

cheers,

Lloyd

Lloyd, don't feel bad about mixing up circumference and diameter, I hear that constantly from my customers. I'll ask, "what's the diameter of the tree at around your chest height?". They'll say, "oh, you mean how big around is it?". "No, that would be the circumference. I'm wondering how wide it is from one side to the other - you know, the diameter". "Oh, you want to know how wide it is?". "Yes please, how wide is the tree?" "I have no idea".

Grrrrrrrrrrrrr.

Just to review: Circumference = 2 x Pi x R (which always caused me to wonder why they just don't call it Pi x D - oh well); and area of circle = (Pi) (r squared). (I know I know, pie are round - never could figure that one out either).

Anyway, nice job kicking butt with that 025C - those sure are user-friendly saws.
