Stihl MS290 not getting fuel?

Quit at full throttle and won't start? Does it still have compression?

Every tractor person I know owns a chainsaw. Thought someone could help.

I think the suggestion was to post in one of the other sub-forums here (lawn&garden, rural living, etc) that will get you more attention. You posted in the Kubota tractor section here and there is no reason to limit yourself to just the Kubota audience for a more general question. You can ask a moderator to move the thread.

Take the muffler off and behind it is a screen. See if that screen is full of carbon. If it is remove it and use a torch to burn carbon off. Mine did the same thing and that is what was wrong with mine

I agree with the oven cleaner but be careful with compressed air. What I do for cleaning the small orfices is to strip the insulation off of some stranded copper wire and then unlay one or two small strands. That's what I use to poke down the holes.

Yep, also do that often but use stiffer wire than copper, like a strand from a wire brush.

'nother handy item is some 1/8" copper tubing that I have that I flared an end and fitted to a cheep air blow gun.
Being copper U can bend at will and it's great to clear radiator fins and intake filters.
I made one up that is about 12 inches long and it gets used often.

Agreed but I posted this from my phone and can’t figure out how to move it now. 🤷🏼*♂️ The phone app isn’t real comprehensive.

my stihl 250 done almost the same thing after taking the carb a part and looking at the small screen inside I could not see anything but when I sprayed it with carb cleaner it changed color which to me indicated something was there I could not see. put it all back together and it has run good ever since. good luck

Ok, I知 at wits end here. My Stihl MS290 quit at full throttle the other day and wouldn稚 start. Here痴 what I致e done:

1. I have spark and installed new plug
2. New fuel line and filter
3. New impulse line
4. Tank vent not plugged or off
5. New carb kit and full clean including diaphragm
6. New fuel mix
7. New air filter

When I pull for a while, literally nothing, no burp, no chug, nothing. Pull out plug, not wet. When I rebuilt carb after pulling a bit, not really wet either. My guess is not getting fuel, but given what I致e already done, what am I missing??

Thanks in advance!

clean the spark arrestor in the muffler

Long shot here but after all the corrective actions that may have solved the problem, if the anti-kickback paddle is in the wrong position afterwards, my Stihl wouldn't start...

Another long shot .... one of the parts you replaced may have solved the problem but you don't know it because it won't start. If the MS290 has the choke flap made into the replacement air filter it may not be closing all the way. There have been some problems with the OEM filters not having a good fit up between the choke flap and the intake port that mates with the carb. Take the filter off and work the choke lever on the filter and see if the flapper closes all the way.

Point being ... one of the parts you replaced may have already solved your problem but the choke flap malfunction is keeping it from starting.

Well I can wrap this up with some information on aftermarket parts and a bit of humility!

I believe my original problem was a clogged jet and the carb rebuild fixed that. Upon putting everything back together it wouldn’t start. As you know I had spark but no ignition, no fuel getting there. I messed with the diaphragm and pump in the carb a few times but nothing. Then I noticed the impulse line was cracked pretty good. Changed that aa well as the fuel line, filter, spark plug, etc,..everything that came in a kit I bought online. I figured, if all these new parts came in the kit, why not?

Well that’s when I wrote the original post here as that didn’t seem to help either. This morning I went out with a clear head and started investigating the simple things and discovered that the fuel line from the tank was kinked off when the carb was installed!!! Turns out the after market fuel line is a much softer material than the original and it kinks when the carburetor is installed pushed back in all the way. Replaced this flimsy line with the original after testing to make sure it had no leaks. Fires right up.

Be careful with the aftermarket replacement parts!
