Need to put new siding on upper portion of the chimney. I am removing the current board and batten siding . I wanted to use manufactured stone veneer but you have to be careful how its installed to prevent leakage into the wood framing. Has anybody used this product before ? Does anyone have other ideas ...like maybe hardie siding. Our house has log siding. Thanks 20200114_113508.jpeg20200114_113531.jpeg20200114_113920.jpeg20200114_115923.jpeg

Any siding that is thicker than the board and batten will require a new chimney chase top to help with water intrusion. From studs to stone their is sometimes plywood or OSB, then a house wrap and then lath and finally the stone.

The flashing on the bottom will need to match the metal roof flashing-(the L metal portion). The L metal goes under the house wrap product mentioned above.

Good point on the top chase cover ! I didn't think about that. Went online and did some research on problems that arise from not properly installing the needed water barriers and weep screens at the bottom for water to drain out Its not a easy task doing all the prep work properly. The biggest mistake made is not putting a screen at the base so the water that gets behind the stone can drain down and out. I looked at the various Hardie cement fiber panels. I liked the james hardie staggered shingle siding. I don't want to make this a difficult job as i don't need to be climbing on top of the roof for repairs at my age !
