Storing tire chains

Did a search and found one thread on storing tire chains. Mine haven't been exposed to salt, just snow and mud. I don't think I want to try and hang them on the barn wall - just too heavy. Been thinking about dumping them in a couple of 5 gal bucket. I'd like to get them out of the way.

What do you do with your chains after snow season?

I put mine in 5 gal buckets with used motor oil. put the lid on bucket and forget till next winter. No jammed fasteners this way. come winter lift out of bucket and hang above bucket for oil to drain off for a day or so.

I've always just hung mine nice and straight on the wall then there is no tangle to sort out when I use them again. Use something like bicycle hooks and you should be okay.

Hang mine on the wall and spray them with WD 40 every so often. I still have chains hanging from my Fergie 30 that I haven't used for 10 yrs and they look good.

I dump them in two milk crates and leave them till next winter.

I was storing mine on set of double " J" hooks during the off season. Now I store them on the rear tires year round. I did this last year for the first time and didn't see any wear after 90 hours of useage ( my yearly avg.), so I'm leaving them on year round now- no more fighting to put them on after I wait too long and it's already snowing!

I hang my garden tractor chains on nails on the inside shed wall. Never get tangled and looks cool, man!

My shed floor is # 2 crushed stone and that is when the lay till next winter. I just pull them out if the way.

I leave mine on all year round...have turf tires and slopes to climb.
