Right now we are getting lotsa rain, and real strong wind.

I saw a tarp i had forgot to put up out on a piece of equipment in the back pasture , and it was getting ready to become a parasail with a small implement attatched.. so i ran out and cut it loose, and balled it up and tucked it into my horse trailer. A good gust came by and sucked my wide brimmed hat off and carried it up in the sky.. that kinda worried me a tad... On the way back in I checked on my poultry, and they were doing good except for two of my game roosters that were on the windwards side.. I grabbed them from their cages and tossed them into the horse trailer as well. I also noticed that I'm getting a large amount of water erosion on the north side of one of my pole barn around the pylons facing the wind.. and when the wind blows, the structure is moving a couple inches.. I'm woried about that one. I grabbed a mallet and some long t-posts which i drove in the ground almost all the way and then used some hi-tensile fence wire and nails to stabilize those three front poles on the barn. So far that is holding and it hasn't budged any since then. I thought I might loose some roofing tin.. but the tin is holding down so good that the roof was obviously tugging ont he uprights.. that and the massive rain... Oh well.. not much to do but wait it out.

Wind was so bad that my poncho kept blowing up. I used some hay string to tie my poncho to my waist so i could finish working... glad I'm back inside now...

Stay safe!

Chris

Sure hope everything comes out OK. Sounds bad from here in CA. We went through the FireStorm a year ago and I know how un-nerving the waiting can be. Be careful out there in the wind, it can sneak up on you.

Some good friends of ours moved to central Florida about a year and a half ago, and they'll be back here hunting a house to buy next month. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif They've had enough of Florida. I told them they need to get back here where all we have is tornados and hail. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

I can just imagine I'd be out trying to keep things under control too - but don't forget to keep yourself safe! Best of luck, were all thinking of you.

I hope you come through the storm ok. You people in Florida are really starting to worry me. /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif There is yet another category three hurricane (Ivan) in the Atlantic projected to be near Florida in about 7-10 days. You guys sure are getting hit hard this year.

Just tuned into the weather channel and it appears that they are getting hammered unmercifully again. Many wires down and lots of metal and debris flying around. Hope that everyone is safe in such a violent storm. It might be a while before we hear from him if his power is effected...

My guess is that insurance rates in Florida will be going through the roof. I would almost find it understandable for an insurance company to simply pull out of Florida. What do you think Sound Guy? In California, earthquake coverage is optional. I have felt one quake in all the years I've been here. It swayed the lamp hanging from a chain. I don't have earthquake insurance.

NOT just FLA BUT everyone will pay more in insurance for the next year or so. If FLA gets hit again this fall, it may not go down for a few years.

Not sure why everyone would pay more unless the issue is generic in nature, ie. "toxic" mold. Here in CA, rates will very dramatically in just a few miles, depends on issues like fire danger areas, flood plane, earthquake etc.
