Google is doing this because it adds value to services they sell. If you want to scare yourself think about what happens when public support approves Gov't taking over Google.

In Google Earth you can use a timeline feature and see images from the past. The progress in image quality is quite startling, and the satellite images available commercially can now resolve detail down to a couple of feet.

If you really want to scare yourself, you should understand that the resolution of Uncle Sam's gen-u-wine gummint spy satellites is vastly superior to what Google has access to. If I were you I'd knock off on the back yard orgies and do a much better job of hiding your likker still:laughing:

It's also reasonable to think that the quality of the commercial images will continue to improve, and the audience for those photos isn't limited to a bunch of spooks in secure gummint facilities.:confused2:

I think by now it would be hard to find an improved public road that Google hasn't video'd. Pretty amazing when you think about it.

Not amazing.
They just hire a local photographer to drive down the road.
Farmers are not the only occupation with the backside out of there trousers.

How many photographers does that take?? And, I don't know any local photographers that have the equipment to do what they do??

It was pretty obvious when the google car came down my driveway, turned around and left. Hard to miss that big old spherical camera pod on top of the car. I remember the day quite well. I just looked again, and it has been almost 8 years ago.

They don't need all that gear to do the job.
A continious digital pannarama camera & a GPS is all that is needed.
The globe cars are most likely 100% automatic so any clot can just drive one down the road.Or if Google has it's way a driverless car.
In the US it is probably different there is a lot more money to be made so they update a lot sooner but two of my old courier customers gave up fashion to shoot for Google.
One had a 180 deg panorama film camera and he did building views for real estat agents as well.
Scott had a full 360 Deg digital which he bought originally for doing interiors of expensive harbour front properties for real estate agents "virtual inspection" of property for sale principally to OS buyers.
The new digitals ( when I closed down the business a few years ago ) could capture amazing detail.
At full resolution Scotts camera could read the headlines on the newspaper you had in your hands while you were having breakfast through several windows at a couple of hundred meters.
Heaven only knows how fine they are now days.
Pannavision had a warehouse at Artarmon and from the top floor you could zoom into peoples units in Darlinghurst some 8 miles away good enough to read the time on a digital clock. I was amazed . no such thing as privacy any more.
They were both about the size of a boot box.
Now days the cameras the green gooses use to spy on farmers to prove you shoud not eat meat ar about the size of a cigarette packet and can read your I phone screen from 500 '
My 12 year old camera will read number plates on vehicles at my gate from 150 yards.
The land lord is about to fit some that will read number plates from 500 yards on his gates to catch the vandals who keep ripping it off.

the police here have cameras mounted in their cars that can read number plates in real time in both direction as they are driving down a 6 lane freeway at 100 kph ( about 80 to you ) analyse the image search 13 databases fast enough for the cop to pull you over.
Local councils are using the same technology to catch people illegally parked.
You get a pretty colour photo in the mail with a fine or if you have overstayed parking time , several pretty pictures.
