Took the cylinder to a hydraulic repair shop. They said it was 'welded', but not in the manner of adding material like MIG, stick, etc. It's fused in some manner.
They agreed that the non-stripped fitting didn't look all that healthy either, so both are being redone. Since the cylinder is going to have to be disassembled for port replacement, they're rebuilding the cylinder also. I'm hoping for Friday as a pick up date. We shall see. They appeared to be pretty booked.
They make hoses, as you'd expect. About 1/2 the cost of ordering from kubota. I'm going to have them make me replacements for almost all the backhoe's hoses. With them being 20+ years old, I don't want to keep tearing into hoe as they start to fail. 6 of them run through a large sleeve, routed through a trough, through the boom. No thanks, doing this once, per every other decade, is often enough.
I figured with 30 years of experience to draw from. Gentleman I talked to would likely be able to make short work of the matter.
Parting shot, I was really impressed with their shop. It's only a two person operation, but the shop was meticulous neat and spotlessly clean.
