My backhoe is off more then it is on the tractor.

The problem is dipper cylinder leaks down which allows to bucket to roll to closed position.
On a Deere 448 backhoe, the front (probably not a good description), where the teeth are mounted, should be approximately perpendicular to the dipper stick. This keeps the tractor mounting end set properly for remounting.
If the dipper cylinder collapses (as it sets), the mounting end of the backhoe rolls out of position

Although I'm sure I'm not explaining this adequately, my question is simple...where can I get a strut of some type that will lock the cylinder rod in the extended position?

Roy, if you weld (or know someone) here's a fairly simple thing I've seen used on loaders, no reason it wouldn't work for your hoe...Steve

A simple angle iron sized appropriately for your rod diameter cut to the proper length and a couple wraps of electrical tape is simpler and equally effective.

Find a pipe with an inner diameter slightly larger than the outside rod diameter. Cut it to lengthy slightly shorter than the extended rod length. Cut it in half lengthwise so you have 2 half pipes. Chain/strap/zip tie those half pipes over the rod. When it settles, the pipe will prevent further collapse. Minimal stress on the chain/straps/zip ties holding it together. Remove straps & extend cylinder slightly to remove.

Could probably even use angle iron, C channel, or maybe even 2x4 lumber in the same fashion.

If you haven't built a dolly yet maybe you could incorporate something in your dolly design. The way mine is, gravity works to hold everything in position with the hoe off and sitting on the dolly.

This, expect maybe use zip ties or Velcro strips rather than tape.
Just be sure the angle isn't contacting the wiper seal.

The best thing to use is a U channel, then use a bolt or pin to hold it on the rod. If you look at most OEM equipment this is the way they do it. Then you can weld a simple tab to store it on the hoe. And it should be strong enough to resist the force that can be generated if you forget about it and try to retract the rod. ISZ
