Greetings...

My Dif lock has been stuck since I purchased the YM336D (two months ago already!). I removed the pedal and retaining plate, and took a look into the gearbox-everything seems to be in good order. I can not move the pin that goes through the gearbox housing (it's currently soaking in PB Blaster...)-any ideas, or try to remove the entire assembly as per the service manual? (SHOULD I be able to move it at all, or does it move minutely when you step on the pedal? I don't see any adjustment mentioned in the service manual, but is there one?)

Thank you all as always!

Greetings...

Pin seems to be connected all the way through...I opened up the cover and say the spring, etc.... If the weather stays nice I'll try and undo the nut the holds it in and see if I can free things up.

Thank you!

Success!!

Greetings...

Well, pried around the shift fork a bit the a crow bar and was able to loosen up the shaft from the gear housing. A little wire brushing and PB Blaster later and it's silky smooth (well, for a Diff lock anyway /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif). All back together and ready for work! Now all I have to do is figure out how to free up the 3PH "fast / slow" lever (it's stuck on "Fast"). PB Blaster and vice grips haven't done anything yet....

Put tractor in reverse. While backing pull up on dif lock and push left then right brake pedals several times back and forth.

Re: Success!!

Glad you got it loosened up. They get stucka lot on any brand tractor. So far every one has been jammed in with rust and dirt - just like yours. Soaking in penetrating oil, heating the end, and alternately pulling on the rod and tapping on it are the only tricks I know. Its the kind of job that seems hopeless till it suddenly comes loose.
What advice would you give to the next person with a stuck diff lock?

Re: Success!!

Hmmm...Advice to the next person with a stuck diff lock (after trying penetrating oil, etc...):

1) Remove pedal (removing the seat first makes it easier /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif (the YM336 has a pedal that pushes against the rod-lifting the pedal simply lifts it off the rod and does not pull on the rod at all)

2) Clean around the access plate for the diff lock

3) Remove above plate, being carefull not to get any contaminants in the gearbox

4) Stick a crow bar (clean) into the hole and pry carefully to engage the diff lock (assuming it's stuck open as mine was). Mine unstuck almost immediately with this type of force, and has worked fine since!

5) Reassemble /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif
