Stuck DIY Kubota Backhoe cylinder seal replacement

......Hi!....Chronic Diyer here.....I may still have a chance of repairing my cylinder myself.....I can find no manual for my Kubota 4530B backhoe.........Cannot figure how to remove the end piece off the shaft......Threaded or pressed, it's not interested in my efforts to remove it........A friend suggested I take it to a machine shop to have it pressed off.......I have successfully worked on motorcycle transmissions and forks, auto engines and manual transmissions, this is a first for a hydraulic cylinder
.......I would be ever so interested on your thoughts on this.......I have halted the seal replacement project so as I do not damage any surfaces......I'm digging a lot by hand now and getting very sore!

The nut on the end of the shaft should unthread. Considering how far it has backed off I'm guessing the threads are damaged now preventing the nut from turning either way. I would cut the nut off and see how damaged the threads are on the rod, likely you will be able to save them without having to replace the rod.

Now if you have been able to remove the nut the piston will press off, it is not threaded on. Usually I can use the gland like a slide hammer to knock the piston off I don't recall ever needing to put one in a press.

As brain 55 said , nut should unscrew from rod, then end should slide off also , but it is a tight fit with the seals, if a seal is damaged it may be tighter . then the other end should slide off also. If you got your seal kit from dealer , stop back by and ask if they will print you a pic. , from the micro fish. this will help with replacing new seal kit. Lube with hydraulic fluid to help reassemble. good luck.

TThanks so much Brian........Yes the nut is loose and just left on there to protect the threads.........The piston seems stuck on really good........I tried a couple of different crummy pulley pullers on it with no results........This probably is the info I need to proceed!.........Dig the tattoo!....I had an orange 55 business coupe with a 427/Muncie/chrome straight axle back in the day, '72-'73.....It's the only car I wished I still had, now.......Thanks so much!.........

not all piston slide off some are threaded some are taperd like a tie rod it is hard to find out witch one you have , the dealer should be able to help with that
