Stuck Stories

Got stuck doing a hayride in a corn field with my 1650 NF oliver. After spinning the clutch in 5th overdrive I had to have everyone get off the wagon, the pop sound was nothing but my pride leaving. Got it out without a tow, but left some pretty deep ruts for me to fix. I was also left with the knowledge of why that is always the last field done around me. Had permission but had promissed not to tear up the field, so much for that promise but the farmer just laughed at me.

I got stuck so many times, my wife finally ok'ed me to buy another tractor, with FWA! I was supposed to sell the JD, but I like it so much I keep using it and she hasn't persisted.

I've never been actually "stuck". I have had to push it out backwards using the loader a few times.

With the truck that's an entirely different story. Ended up having it buried well enough to drag the tow truck backwards towards the truck. He eventually got it figured out though and got it unstuck.

My stuck story is an Albany Ladder(75' platform boom with 4WD) that my painter was using to coat the roof of the barn with Aluminized Roof Paint...Heavy rains...the painter was impatient drove the Albany Ladder in front of the barn and it sank to its frame...Being on the fire department, I know all of the HEAVY DUTY Wrecker ops in our area because we are continually providing them with business due to the unusual number of 10-50s we seem to have...They came out with one of the BIG Wreckers hooked the cables up started to winch the Albany Ladder out of the mud and noticed they were moving backwards...:D ...They dropped their back jams and pulled it out...FEE $125...which is what they normally charge just to show up...So the painters final fee was $125 short...And after things dried out I got to play with the tractors smoothing everything back out...:D

I have been stuck so many times I can't even count. Usually happens in the spring time. Ground seems fine until you spin a tire and tear through the roots at the top of the soil. Nothing but "pudding" underneath. In the old days that meant a highlift jack and lots of wood blocks. Now I have a backhoe and loader on my tractor. Usually I can pull myself out with that. If it gets really bad I throw a block under each backhoe stabilizer, lift the rear of the tractor and throw some more blocks under the rear tires. I then do the same to the front of the tractor using the loader to lift the front end. During extreme cases I have to put blocks under the bucket to get something to lift from. Gets to be lots of work but it always works. There have to be hundreds of blocks buried a couple of feet below the ground surface on my place. Never seem to retrieve them once the ground dries up. I have come to believe that I will never get stuck if I wear my high rubber boots, only happens when I have tennis shoes on while driving through 3 feet of muck.

Most of my stuck adventures would never have happened if I had a FEL or backhoe on my JD. The only close call I have had with my Ford was when I went to mow a perculation pond that had an underlying soft layer under a surface layer that I could walk on. I went onto it with that 10,000 pound plus tractor and it went straight to the frame with all six wheels. I put it in reverse and tried to back up, but just started spinning. I stepped on the diff lock and with all six wheels slowly churning, it caught a small amount of traction and started moving. It was a weekend of forcasted rain and a bad neighborhood so leaving the tractor wasn't an option. It would have cost me a small fortune to get it extracted.

This was a quick stuck. First day the tractor arrived I had to burn a huge pile of debris - 10ft. high, while the fire was burning ( FAST , as it was brush ) I kept pushing in the debris with the bucket, I got in too deep into the fire and the I got excited and stalled the tractor. I had seconds to think, jump while i had the chance and burn up a new tractor, or try a restart, it restarted and I flew out of there. Tires a little worse for wear.
Yes stupid.
