I ordered 19 yards of topsoil for next years garden. The area has never had a garden, so I wanted to get a good start with some good soil. We have had some rain, so the area is wet. To make things even "better", I have been spreading wood chips over the area for 3 years. The result is very wet, soft soil from all these rotting chips. The fellow delivering the topsoil decided at the last minute to head to the right of the barn (I told him not to go that way). He got stuck. I drove him back to his shop and he drove his HUGE CAT Loader back to my place to pull his stuck truck out of the muck. Best hour I sent all day!!!!!!!! I got to use his CAT loader to pull him out. The CAT reminded me of my New Holland TN70, as it had a power shuttle! I told him he could leave the CAT Loader at my place if he needed too :D . Now, I want one of the CATS. Big, smooth and powerful.

It's an oldy too. The topsoil guy was wise to just stop and get the big tools. That was too nice of a truck to beat up by trying to get out, plus your garden would have some really big ruts.

Afternoon Doc_Bob.
That soil looks rich indeed even w/out 19 yards of top soil added.

One could have a lot of fun during the winter months w/that Cat.

I think us Tractor guys are the only ones who realize just how much fun that is. Nothing like a good rescue mission then some good seat time when things dry our to fix the damage. Life is good,.

How many yards did he have on the truck? I've never herd of a dump truck that can hold that much? Did he make two trips? I've also never seen double side boards like he has. Do you know how much more he's able to haul with the extra height?

Thanks for the pictures, it's always more fun to see other stuck than to have to deal with it myself!!!

Eddie, I had 22 yard trucks deliver gravel this year, coarse they weren't completely loaded as they would have been overloaded weight wise, but they routinely haul peat and topsoil loaded to the top.. John

Eddie - this is a very typical dump truck for this area. There are some that are a tad bigger capacity, i.e. taller sides. I don't know the cuyd capacity. They are so typical that some topsoil contractors advertise they use a smaller truck to reduce yard damage.
