Well, today I managed to drag the gravel back up the drive that was washed down by the rains from Hurricane Issac. It is still so wet around my place, that there wasn't too much that I could do.
I did make an attempt at some stump removal. The photo shows a pine stump thats about 14" in diameter. After about thirty minutes of fooling around with it, I finally gave up. I dug down about three feet, and did manage to get it to move back and forth a bit, but with the ground as wet as it is, its got a pretty good suction on it.
Down here on the coast, the pines don't have many lateral roots, but some of the tap roots can go down six feet! I was a bit nervous when pushing it with the bucket, for fear of slipping off into the hole.
I guess I'll wait and tackle it again in a few days.
