- STX 30
First, I'm new to the forum. Just bought an old STX 30 off craigslist. It's not to pretty, but the Kohler runs like a sewing maching. I'm having to do some maintenance and cleanup. I need to replace the brake pad and have never done it. It appears to be pretty simple in that I need to remove the 2 bolts that hold the brake pad housing (sorry for not knowing all the proper terms) and replace the pad. ISSUE & question: I'm pretty mechanical and do not see any reason why the 3/8" bolts should not come right out. Well, the first one towards the front of the tractor was soft as wax and just broke right off (now I have to pull out my "easy outs"). The bolt to the rear only rocks back and forth about 1/4 of a turn. Is there anything inside the tranny housing that will prevent this bolt from coming out? I'm guessing I just need some liquid wrench and patience. But since I broke the first bolt, I'm a bit leary. Thanks for any help!!
