Sub Compact or Compact for my needs

**** Edit **** I’ve decided to go with CUT instead of SCUT

I recently went to the local Kioti dealer and looked at a CX 2510. I have an an unusual , but small lot with a seasonal creek and a lot of sagebrush and Bitterbrush on it that I need to remove. I also need to flatten some areas remove some Willows and a few other tasks like moving gravel around.

There is also need for some tight space maneuvering for crushed rock near the house so my concerns are getting a smaller tractor or a compact one like the CX 2510.

It’s only a 1 acre a lot and I thought about renting, but the prices are so high for as much work as I want to do. I thought I would look into buying something and then selling it a few years down the road.

Anybody have any suggestions? Seems like a lot of people here are pretty knowledgeable and have some good experience.

A subcompact will meet your needs. I, too, have the largest "garden tractor" that the Craftsman line had. There is a DRAMATIC difference when I got my first subcompact (LS MT125 tlb).

Did a lot of work: Installed full septic system, trenches for utilities, prepped the foundation, final grade, driveway, etc.... all with the SCUT.

it did have some limitations, but you can overcome them, it will just take a bit longer to do. I ended up selling the SCUT, and moving up to a CUT.
Same HP, just twice the size. It does what the SCUT does, just easier (more lift capacity, better traction).

Unfortunately, I do really miss having the small SCUT, it got into places that the CUT can't get to. I have been actually looking to get another SCUT.

IMHO, go with the subcompact. I believe you will be able to do what you need and be able to manage 1 acre with a subcompact (SCUT).

I absolutely agree in terms of capabilites except for “Ground clearance” and easier rolling in very uneven ground. Have you used it in very uneven ground? And how does the LS MT125 compare to the CS2110 in terms of tire sizes and ground clearance?

Unless you need the smaller machine to fit your property I would choose the CX over the CS all day. So much more capable than the CS. For what its worth Im only on 1 acre right now (buying more property soon) but my CX has been great for my uses, was originally looking at sub compact but when I sat on the CX and compared it to the CS it was an easy decision. Of course again, your needs and limitations will dictate the size you will need.

He's referring to the emissions systems on the larger HP engines. Stay at the 25 hp and under and it wont have emissions to worry about.

My experience is with the Kubota line....but SCUT and CUT are probably about the same regardless of brand. I'd go with a 25 HP CUT even though you are on 1 acre.....because it sounds like your terrain is pretty rough....especially for leveling and brush removal. I'd guess that the difference between close space manuvering wouldn't be much different. Attachments for the 3 point and maybe for the FEL could also make some difference.

I’m pretty much sold staying with the larger (compact) one, after reviewing other posts. I should probably redirect this to a CX features post, or maybe Kubata comparison, as that’s the other nearby dealer.

My Kiota dealer had a CX2510 built with a hydrstatic trasmission. I’m not particularly fond of hydrostatics, and actually miss not having manual transmissions on my cars and trucks(yeah, I’m old). Is there a good reason not to get a manual transmission configured? Would save me a little.

If you’re not doing mostly field work you will regret a manual in my opinion. I would hate a manual with my CX doing loader work or almost anything else for that matter. It’s not a sports car
