Pro's and cons of Subframe vs 3 point for a backhoe on a JD 790. Woods BH 70X 3 point is what I am looking at. Just trying to figure out what would work best.
Thanks,

Chuck

Hiya Chuck;

Try running a search on "3pt backhoe", this subject has a lot of threads, several are current.

subframe:

Pro: evens out the weight of the hoe, and the stress it makes to spread it out over the sub-frame mounting points.

Con.. may reduce ground clearance, cost.. etc.

3pt:

pro:.. easy on.. doesn't kill ground clearance.

con: probably leave you with a broke in half tractor if you actually do any meaningfull work with it.

3pt hoes generally can't be uses as vigorously as their subframe cousins due to the way tractors have their frame / castings setup. IE.. a 3pt hoe tends to get less work done if you don'y want to rip your rear end from your trans.. or your trans from your engine..

Agree with Soundsguy go for the Subframe - less strain on tractor frame.

I have a 790 with a JD 7 subframe backhoe and would not have anything else.
I used to have a Ford 1900 2WD with a Woods 750 3pt on it and it took forever to hook up or un-hook. Plus it was dangerous.
The JD 790 with a frame backhoe is a beautiful thing.
