Sub-Soiler how deep and how far apart?

I own a 35 hp tractor and just bought a TSC sub-soiler. How deep should I run it and how far apart should I make the cuts?

Pull as deep as you can, to get to the Subsoil. How far apart you go depends a lot on personal preference and what you are subsoiling for? I usually go about 3 ft apart and if I have a low spot holding water and want to make it drain, I will checkerboard that area. Ken Sweet

I hope your TSC sub-soiler lasts longer than mine did. Mine had a usable life of about 5 minutes on my 32hp kubota. One of the welds broke then it started to twist and bend.

All good Subsoilers will have a shearpin in them to prevent such disasters. Ken Sweet

I own same subsoiler....and have a lot of rocks. I was wondering if I could use a lighter bolt in place of the top pin(of the 3 point hitch) to use as a shear pin. Opinions?????? thanks . I have a 28 hp massey.

Be a good idea to check and see what the machine would hit if it sheared the bolt. Sure wouldn't want to hit the tractor. Ken Sweet

I looked at the book for my JD 22A, it states that the sub soiler will shatter the ground 2' from the blade. Their for 4' passes should be made. It does have a shear bolt to prevent damage.

He is talking about the book that came with his JD 22A sub soiler. His sub soiler does have a shear pin. Your's don't, and his book said that making 4' passes with the sub soiler is how far to space the cuts that the soil will be shattered 2' from the blade as it cuts the soil. In other words when you dig the soil it will crack the soil 2' from where you make the cut under ground.
