Rebuilt the carb yestersday and now she runs like a champ. Changed the oil, greased the fittings, and gave it a bath.

Not a bad looking ol' girl for 11 years old :)

I want to change the hydro oil, but that'll have to wait a few weeks when I have time to pull the deck out of the way for the planned belt replacements. Only has 135 hours on it so she can wait a few week.

She woke up from her 6-7 year sleep rather well :)

Nice job, Larry! She really looks sweet! I would LOVE power steering on my 2544. That tractor looks to be quite a bit heavier built than the newer ones with the cast iron transaxle.

Be sure to change the oil after a few hours just to be sure of anything that might be floating around. Engines that sit a LONG time have a bad habit or forming rust on the cams and cylinder barrels (if iron). Not quite as bad for engines that run unleaded, but aircraft engines have a devil of a time with corrosion due to the lead salts that form in the oil (from the lead in the fuel). Mixed with water they become acidic and eat the engine from the inside out. Not good....

Chris,

Already planned :)

I'm going run for 5 hours, then change again. Already got spare oil and filters ready :)

Glad you got it running the way it should Larry, well worth the effort. Looks great- or should I say it looks like new!

Hi Larry,

I really liked that series Cub. I had an 1860 (Kohler 18HP Magnum, no power steering) and an 1862 (Kohler 18HP Magnum with power steering).

They served me well.

The 1863 and 1864 used the Kohler Command engine?
Overhead valve, V twin?

Enjoy!

Nice job on that tractor! Is that a 54" deck? It looks very similar to the current one...
