I have a chance to buy a Farmtrac 270, 4wd, with FEL and box blade, 2005 model with 61 hrs, for $9,500. Spec wise, this tractor will fit my needs and the price seems very reasonable. Tractor is in perfect condition and been garage keep. I have read the numerous post around the farmtrac tractor around parts issues and getting service. Opinions around this tractor would be welcomed.

Welcome to TractorByNet. Found yourself a great buy on a supper nice tractor. Could you guess the price if it were a major? The best part is it's as good or even better than the others. LS Tractor is supporting the tractor with parts in this country. The Daedong- Kioti motor is a great runner with a surprizing amount of power for 27 gross hp. The loader is supported by Montana until their leftover parts supply from Farmtrac dries up. but you can buy hydraulic parts from alot of suppliers, so that should not be an issue. I sold the 270/ loader. They are all still running strong with different types of uses being applied to them. Support is great on here with alot of knowlege and expert advise. If you need any help, just ask. trac

Thanks for the input Trac. The specs. show 9 gpm total on hyd's and 6 gpm for implements. Will this handle a 56 inch open bottom grapple or should I go with the 48 inch grapple with only a single cylinder.

The 5040M loader will handle either grapple, but keep in mind that speed is slowed down on increasing the size of the cylinder(s). The 54" bucket might be nicer if you have industrial tires on the tractor. Grapple buckets are a nice option, but can be misused on a farm tractors. Haul your loads low, and always wear your seat belt with the roll bar up. Remember, saftey First, trac

I did forget to mention that the rear of the tractor may be light when lifting heavy loads. The box blade will help with this but, you may have to build a ballast box to hang on the three point hitch. I have also built weights for the box blade. Rear wheel weights do help some, but I don't think they are the answer. A few manufacturers are left in this country that still handle them.

I have a 270 and it is a great tractor. My former FT dealer still services it with no problems. He claims the only thing that he sees being a problem to replace is blue painted sheet metal. I had the rears filled with CaCl and I can pick up anything the hydraulics on teh loader will allow. That is not to say I feel comfortable driving around with like that though. I am planning on buying a couple new loader cylinders before the suplly dries up. Both rods on the dump cylinders pitted and one started to leak. The only way to fix it is new cylinders or an expensive custom rod made.
