Greetings from Romania! I hope everybody is doing fine during this pandemic times!

I would like to make, together with my brother (the handy guy) a sulky for my Grillo G110D equipped with a Berta Flailmower (85cm) and i was searching the internet for ideas. I found one type, used mostly for lawn mowers, in which the operator stands upright and another type where the operator is seated (like the one EarthTools makes).

Could you help me with some suggestions/ideas/answers?

Can i attach the sulky directly to the metal thing/mask where the wheights are? (i have the nut system from an old trailer...)
Would it change the balance/weight center point of the whole machine, and lift up the flailmower?
Or should i attach it to the tractor wheels? Should i use bearings?

I was thinking to make the sulky with a detachable seat. I have a big piece of land, very bumpy and maybe standing while mowing would be better.
I noticed the sulkies for lawn mowers have very small wheels, but there the ground is leveled. Better to have bigger wheels and the distance of the operator from the ground to be about 20/30cm? I have some old wheels 3.50-8 in size, and i could use them...
What do you think about it?

Thank you in advance for your help!

A larger diameter wheel will smooth out the bumps a bit and roll easier.

I don't think we have those in the US but I looked up some pictures and it looks doable. It appears as if those machines can be used going either direction, depending on the attachment. The handles and controls spin 180°. Is that correct?

Here's a picture of the factory version. Could you just copy this? A630.jpg

Mounting to the wheels is usually done with post mounts to the wheel hubs similar to the barbell weight posts. Then the sulky is attached to those posts with bearings at the ends of arms. Earth Tools has the design perfected with the one they build.

Yes, i already though of that, but that goes when the engine you dont have a flailmower attached... which puts the engine facing the operator... Thakns!

Here's the one on the Gravely that I had. Used it A LOT.

I also put a seat on the cart and used it more or less as a sulky. Sometimes, I put the 2 together.

With the wheel mounted sulky you have to have an implement mounted in order to keep the tractor balanced. If you want to run a sulky with the engine out front, then use a trailer coupler like Earth Tools sells. That locks the tractor to the sulky in a solid connection, allowing for sideways articulation. That's what I use for my sulky and trailer on my BCS, but I don't have a need for the wheel mount design since I don't have a mower.
I can connect the tractor-sulky-trailer-log splitter all hitched as a train. Sometimes I have a large wagon behind the trailer instead of the splitter if hauling lots of cooking or camp gear out to to the fire pit.
