Does anyone know of a reasonably priced outlet for suitcase weights??

With scrap turned in for pennies a pound, I'm not prepared to spend a dollar a pound for weight..

Well, since $1 per pound is about the going market price, I don't know if you have a lot of choice, if you need weights.

Oh well, I suppose you could strap some on that penny a pound scrap onto the bracket.

Me and my daughter wanted to find a few railroad spikes to nail into some logs in our log cabin to hang things on. So we went down the tracks to find a few. We found about 60...and they weigh about 1 lb each. I had the pockets of my shorts stuffed and a waist pack stuffed. I looked like a good plumber cause my shorts were about to my knees by the time we got back to the truck.

Then the next week-end her little cousin came for a vist and we repeated the same thing with another 60 or so found. I may get me a barrel and cement a few hundred of these in the bottom and then use the remainder for storage.

How are ya'll weighing these 900 lb barrels? Are you guestimating or do you have an industrial scale? Even my wifes heavy duty scale won't go to 900 lbs:eek:

Hey Curly,

Don't let the RR catch you lifting those spikes. (or anything else for that matter) They get real sensitive about that.

I am sure that you wouldn't, but they might get the idea that the spikes may have been IN THE TRACK before they were stuffed in your shorts and waist pack. Messing around RR property is a Federal Offense. After 911 things got pretty tense.

Good point, yeah these were all on the side, we didn't pull any out of the track:D . They had done some repair work in the area of track we walked on and there were spikes everywhere.

I may go back for another load if I find me a barrel;)

I went to the local scrapyard and found a piece of steel the was 2 1/2 X 7 x 8 foot long. Cut it up into 5 pieces, and each weighs about 100lbs. Made a box to drop onto the frame to hold them. It gives me about 550lbs of weight on the front. or I can carry chains and other stuff instead. Cost of the steel was $.35 per lb. total cost $200. The box will be retrofitted so I can use a 2in reciever and install on rear of tractor to used as counter weight for the FEL.
