I have a pile of ratchet straps that are no good anymore because I left them out in the sun & weather and they turned brittle/flaky and I don't trust them to do their job. The last batch I bought were supposedly UV resistant (or somesuch) and they don't seem to be faring any better. I know the simple answer is to not leave them out in the weather, but self discovery reveals that I'm better at tailoring my gear to my behavior than tailoring my behavior to my gear. So where can I get ratchet straps that will survive a few summers in the sun, "just because"?

Polyester takes UV much better than nylon. Dyes fade but strength is pretty stable. One is less stretchy than the other.
Not all plastic is interchangeable. Fraying is more worry some than UV degradation for most people.
How about you just secure with an extra strap? A former employer would shift aging equipment to "trucks of last resort" from frontline vehicles.

NEMO Equipment Blog: NEMO Classroom Lessons #164: Nylon vs Polyester

I found that site at random. Boat guys are pretty good understanding weather resistance, too.

They cost less now than a few years ago. A 2"x27' strap with a WLL of 3333 pounds can be bought for 10 bucks or less, on sale. Maybe just replace them every spring.
