Sunglasses - recommendations

What do you all like for good sunglasses?

Anything with soft rubber parts I find go into a state of 'perpetually melted' after they get overheated sitting in the car. They are basically throw away after that. So no, or minimal rubber parts.

I looked at Maui Jim's today that I really liked (Pilot and Stingray)...but holy crap $200-300! I am usually willing to pay top dollar for high quality, but I have a bad track record with losing and breaking sunglasses.

What do you guys like that doesn't break the bank? Or should I just resign myself to the higher cost for good sunglasses?

Around here I would purchase a A$50 pair from the Chemist. They've usually got a display rack (with a wee mirror) from "The Cancer Council" with all sorts of varieties.

Also, here in Aus, sunnies are claimable on our income tax... that's due to our high UV ray exposure.

Not sure the style or type you prefer but I like Oakley's. They have great lens, and depending on the type, lens, and other parts are replaceable in case of damage. I also like the fact the lens are all safety rated. The pricing is mostly a good deal less than Maui Jims, and if you happen to be EMS, LEO or Military they offer a pretty good discount.

I prefer the least expensive that are polarized, have full UV protection, and have spring hinges. Name brand prices are ridiculous, you are not normally buying much (if any) higher quality.

And like you, they don't last long for me, so I don't want megabucks invested in them.

I liked my Oakleys, but I was very disappointed the frames deteriorated after one day left in the car in the sun.

Bill Dance fishing glasses from Walmart. Unless you lose them, they last for years, UV, and all the rest of the specs are as good as or better than the $300.00 stuff, won't get stolen, and you won't get stupid looks when you show up somewhere in your thousand buck truck, pulling your 400 dollar tractor..

Oakley.... That's a replacement tire on my tractor

Maui Jims..... That's a good used box blade or disc

Ray Bans, Old School. I think they called them G3s. Anybody that spends huge on sunglasses Should be taxed heavily by the man, because they are either too rich or too stupid and in either case, ripe for the picking.

Check out Revo and Spy Optic for 2 brands that I like. Comfortable, great lenses, great style. I spend many many hours in sunglasses and don't mind buying good quality. Good glass/optics are expensive.

I've had the best luck at Tackle Warehouse. They are online. I don't fish and have never purchased anything else from them. But after searching for days to find something that fit and worked for me I stumbled into their store. Been so happy I purchased from them again a few years later. Seems they were in the $50-$75 range. I tried the ones that were 3x the price but didn't like them as much.
I have very sensitive eyes- I wear sunglasses almost all the time- in the rain, snow and on cloudy days. For some reason the glasses the fisherman use work for me.

To each his (or her) own... I won't divulge my favorite to spare me of ridicule and judgement. I found this review online that might help steer you. Go try out a bunch. See how they fit, how they cover your eyes, how you like the view (lens color). I like polarized and UV protection... won't have it any other way. And this is coming from a Seattle guy. When the sun comes out we think it should be a holiday! I read that we have the highest per capita ownership of sunglasses too (not fact checked)!

Hey Wag... I almost made down your way. Would have tracked you down too! Was working at the Avalon Airshow all week near Geelong. My sunnies did come in handy. Tried to talk the wife into venturing further south but we compromised and are headed to Noosa Beach in Queensland. Next time!
