I have a Super M Farmall that fires up everytime. Unfortunately it may run from 1 minute to over 1/2 hour. It then sputters and dies. I have removed sediment bowl a couple times and have siphoned all fuel from the tank on another occasion and extended my shop vac hose with a LONG piece of garden hose to suck out debris in the tank. This seemed to help for awhile but just the other day, I was pulling a trailer back to the woods to gather logs for cutting and it died again. After leaving it set a couple minutes it fired right back up and by working the choke for awhile to keep it running, it seemed to work itself out. I was wanting some input as to what others have done in the past. Is the tank hard to remove and what should I do after it is removed. Thanks in advance for your input.

To remove those tanks it is quite obvious as to what you need to remove. To have it cleaned and freshend up won't hurt.

how do you recommend cleaning it up?

One of the fellows in our local antique tractor club I used to belong to made a bracket to fit the right rear wheel of his Super C Farmall, then bolted a tank off a W-4 to it, that was scaley inside. Jacked that wheel up, locked the left brake, and blocked securely. He'd put several handsful of nuts, washers, and small scrap pieces, small enough not to damage the tank inside. Put the tractor in second gear at an idle, and let it run for couple hours. Presto, clean tank..!!

My luck..., if I'd do that.., it'd go boom..!!

I have used cleaned, washed, #67 limestone to clean some old gas engine tanks. Worked OK, but still need to rinse it well.

We had a place steam clean the diesel tank on the small 450 Case dozer we had. Actually caused more headaches afterwards, than before. Not really possible to swish it around, and get cleaned out real well...

If you dont' want to go to all the work clean one...get a "strong" magnet (I use computer magnets), and attach it on the bottom of the tank (there will be a sort of "sump" behind the hole for the fuel bulb)..place it here...all the ferous material that comes of the walls will attach itself about the magnet and will hold it there....I've done this to 2 Super C's that did the same thing as you SM and no more stalls...good luck BobG in VA
