Superduty gooseneck question

Dumb question: do any Superduty (07 through 11) short bed trucks come with the factory gooseneck hitch? Looking at the 2011 brochure, it appears the gooseneck/fifth wheel package is only available in the long bed.

If that is so, can an aftermarket hitch (a BMW turnover ball) be installed in a regular (short) bed. And if so, is there room for a standard tool box in front of the trailer?

Reason I am asking, I have a 06 longbed F350 SRW that I occasionally pull my tractor with on a gooseneck deckover. I am thinking of trading and drove a newer crew cab short bed and it sure is more pleasant to drive, but would hate to give up my gooseneck capability and sure don't want to not have a tool box. My crew cab crew long bed just isn't a great everyday driver around town, so I drive a Landcruiser. I could probably enjoy a new Superduty as a everyday driver in the shorter version and get rid of my longbed and Cruiser, and save some money by having only one vehicle.

We have a 04 super duty, crew cab, long bed, 4x4, and it's been tough to find goose neck trailers that have enough clearance. Most of the super dutys around this area are short beds and I've seen them with tool boxes and pulling goose necks. Not sure about that year range though.

My 03 has a toolbox. I do not have a problem towing my Big Tex GN or my Sundowner GN horse trailer with either truck. I can jackknife 90 degrees without hitting the cab with either trailer as both have V fronts. B&W makes an adapter for shortbeds that replaces the standard ball and moves the ball 4" towards the rear, but I have never needed it. There is also a 5th wheel adapter that replaces the standard ball so you do not need another hitch in the bed.

Thanks. Did Ford offer a factory gooseneck in a short bed or are all aftermarkets? My 06 longbed 350 has a B&W and it is great.

I noticed the 2011 that I saw (longbed) has an odd fifth wheel looking system with 5 attachment points (I guess thats what they are) in the bed. Amazingly the salesman I talked to did not know what a gooseneck was or anything about the hitch. Unbelievable. You would think someone trying to sell these might become familiar with them.

I think Ford started offering a factory 5th/GN hitch in 08 on the SuperDuty trucks.

B&W is tough to beat.

I don't think you can order the factory gooseneck for a shortbed, but if your parts dept orders you the ford one, it will fit the short beds I believe. Probably cheaper to get the B&W hitch though.

As a Factory Option 2011 was teh first year it is offered. Previously to 2011 it is a dealer installed option (i.e. aftermarket hitch)

The reason the factory doesn't offer the option in a short bed is the possibility of trailer cab interaction when turning. ( yes read dentingmetal breaking glass) Depending on the type of platform on teh GN you maight have to deal withthe insurance company if you turn too tight with a short bed configuration.

or you can go the other way and get 5th wheel rails and use a gooseneck adapter like 'the goose'.. I have one in my f450 and love it.
