Superior loader on a 9n?

Anyone out there have any experience with a FEL on a 9N? I'm looking at a parts tractor that's got one (Superior is the brand, front driven hyd pump, 4 cyls on the frame work - so it's not a trip bucket) and I was considering putting it on mine.... I use my 9 with a slip scoop digging in the woods/back yard with the kids, leveling a wooded lot 3 or 4 bucketfuls a day before supper. Will this FEL help me or should I stick with the slip?

the scoop can dig.. the loader won't.. it scoops stockpiled material.. or is a mobile crane.

makes steering hard.

on the other hand.. I'd use a loader before a wheelbarrow ANY day.

I always used scoops till I got a loader.. I like my loaders.. if I need to dig.. I get the box blade or scoop out..

The n's are great tractors, but definitely not good on a loader. The lack of power steering makes steering tough with a load, the front axles are not designed for the extra weight forward, lack of 4wd makes getting a full bucket tough on other than loose material, and all that extra weight and bulk takes away much of the advantages of these compact tractors. I would stick with the rear scoop. A 9n is better than an 8n on one of those because it has a lower reverse gear. You can always sell that loader to a horse-person, many of whom own n's and use them for loading manure, which is about the only task a loader on an n does ok at.

Thanks guys, will a box scraper "dig" better than the scoop? I'm using mine in reverse in the woods and I'm finding the root systems cause it to bounce up & ride along the surface (thinking of adding a weight box to the top of it) I contemplated adding teeth (I saw someone made a detachable tooth setup for a FEL that would probably work well). I'm not digging to make a hole, I just want to pull dirt from the high corner of my lot and level some of the many dips & holes where trees used to be.

Reading what I just wrote I realize the scraper can't move dirt over the several hundred feet I need unless I drag it there..... But would it make piles I could carry in the loader?

So, is it worth it for me to put said loader on the N?

Try the scoop in the forward position. Usually they dig a lot better that way and you wont risk bending your lower links. Adjust the top link in a bit so that you get a decent angle on the front edge as it contacts the ground. I am guessing a pond scoop in the forward position would be about the most efficient tool available to use on an n for your task of moving dirt from high spots to low spots. Its kind of like a scaled down version of them big "Pans" they use for big jobs. It lets you dig, transport and dump, while a box scraper, front loader, or rear blade may do one or two of them tasks but not all three as effectively as a pond scoop.

Hey all! I've got a gravity down unit on my 1951 TO20 Harry Ferguson. I think this is close to a 9N. It has hydro dump bucket and does a fair job digging; however, the bucket is not wide enough to offset the earth for the front wheels. The teeth make all the difference. My tractor is hard to steer with a full bucket and the loader connects with 3 bolts up front and 4 in the rear. I have ballasted tires and a 3pt weight to counterbalance. I do not like it as compared to my modern Branson, but I do not think I would ever had bought the new tractor if I had the Fergy first.

Yeah guys, I was primarily asking about the FEL - that deal fell through though.... Thanks for all the feedback. The wife is pleased I won't be bringing a parts tractor home!
