Hello, here's my first post. I'm waiting on a L3010 w/FEL. Another week before it's here and I'm now wondering what items do you feel are either necessary or essential immediately after the purchase? I'm not referring to the big items such as 3pt attachments because they are such job specific but rather the miscellaneous items such as gas cans, shop manuals, fluids that keep you running. As an addendum, what do you consider to be fun addons? I have to entice my wife to consider getting on this. As this is a new endeavor for me, your responses are welcome. David

A big funnel, the diesel fuel gets everywhere, lights for the rear, chain hooks on the bucket, and high mounted lights to shine over the FEL for night work. I'm still thinking of adding a steering knuckle.

Welcome, and congrats on your new machine! Not much that wasn't mentioned already. Maybe just a good quality grease gun, set of filters, and service manuals. Otherwise a lot of schedule free time to get comfortable operating. Congrats again.

Sailorcrew, welcome to compact tractor land. First of all a cupholder is a must as indicated by an orgy of posts under "Chalkley Cup". Second, front and rear facing lights that are high enough on the ROPS so the FEL/3 point implement doesn't blot them out but not so high that you can't get in the shed. Get one of those cheap chinese stainless steel saucers with a magnet on it to coral hitch pins, the tin can for the exhaust pipe etc. Next, look it over for a site for a serious good sized tool box. Also, a place to store a good 20' chain. Reinforce the FEL top lip and put chain hooks at the corners. Cycle the FEL and check the transmission/hydraulic fluid and other gear case fluid levels.Check-out linkages for binding points and lubrication. Make sure all grease fittings take grease. Adjust the seat to your wieght. If your north of TN consider a heated battery blanket and block heater. Get a cleft for the drawbar. Get a grease gun holder/bracket. Make sure hydraulic hose don't rub. Check the air in the tires. Tighten bolts, especially FEL mounting hardware. Get the proper array of metric tools. Hide the second key. Get an anti- corrosion mat for the battery. Think about how your going to handle fuel, containers, amount etc. Teach wife how to remove snow at 5:00AM. Buy a tiltmeter and impress on everyone that this thing can kill you and the seat belt isn't just decoration. Make a shovel holder.
This will keep you busy the first weekend.

RCH,

Those are some good suggestions! /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif. But that wife deal could be dangerous... What if she decides she knows more about it than YOU do and won't let you play on it anymore? /w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif

Hello everyone, thanks for the very good advice. RCH, one question, what is a cleft that you mentioned for the drawbar? I did want to put a ball on for hauling a trailer and camper around that yard. Thanks, David

Sailorcrew, a cleft is a hefty 3/4th metal circle 3" in diameter that has a pin to attach to the drawbar. You can run the chain through it and either hook the chain to itself or have both ends of the chain hooked to whatever you want to pull. It will be with the drawbar/hitch pin stuff.

We call it a clevis in Connecticut too. Good job as usual with the graphics, John.
