\"Sure-Lift\" versus Tie Rod Cylinders?

Looking for reasonably priced cylinders for my backhoe- in-the-works, I came across new tie rod cylinders that seem to be way less expensive by at least a quarter in price than the straight tube cylinders.

Is there any great disadvantage in using the tie rod over the other? It would seem the tie rod would be easier to maintain as they can be dissassembled for seal or O ring changes and they come in ranges of stroke that are similar to the other.

Tie rod cylinders are used for applications such as grapples so I see no reason why they won't work for your application. Northern Tool and Surplus Center both have pretty nice selections too.

tie rod cylinders are easier to repair for the average farmer, no giant spanner wrenches to may or mortgage the house to buy the tools, and no need for hundreds of pounds of torque to loosen the gland. the only downside i can see to tie rod cylinders would be the possibility of snaging a tie rod on something when used on a backhoe, and also they are a bit bulkier, but other than that they are a dream to service compared to the tube type
