My daughter's LT160 has been running very rough lately. I pulled the top off of the air box to check the filter and was surprised to find that the air box was about 1/2 full of gas. I bailed it out and it ran fine for a few days and then it started sputtering again. So, I opened the air box and it once again had gas in it.

It's obvious that the gas is coming from the carb, but I'm hoping someone can explain why and what needs to be done to correct it.

It sounds like the float is sticking.
take the bowl off and see if there is any trash inside.

Replace the needle valve and seat should keep it from leaking. If your gas is blended the ethanol has been creating havoc. More than likley the rubber tip on the needle valve has become hard and will not seal. The seat may be ok but you wan to inspect it good.
