THROTTLE BODY FI systems. What a joke they were! Maximum complications for a minimal improvement over a standard carb. How many cars are in the scrap yard now thanks to stuffed throttle body electronics.

GM experimented in the early 80s with what they called "CrossFire Injection",
a thottle body FI system. It was gone just a year or so after intro around
83. I wonder did your Holdens use that on their V8s back then?

Anyway, I experimented with a mechanical thottle body FI system for
my 72 Toyota Celica back in the mid 70s. I got more power, but
suffered from icing probs. Those were the days.

The late 80s Samurais use a complex carb with electronic controls and so
is dependent on a working computer board, too.

Fuel injection would be nice to have. My Hitachi carb has about the same amount of wires sensors and vacuum lines. Alot of people swap to a Weber carb, but you have to be an expert to get webers to run good off road. My stock carb will run at almost any angle. I flopped once in a wide ditch and it kept on running while I tried to get out. If I had the money and could find either, I would swap in a big block 1.6 from a tracker, or a diesel from a vw rabbit. It sort of rings a bell but I can't say for sure. My initial throttle body experience was with a late 80's 1.8 litre GMH Holden Camira... pretty much lauded as the worst car ever made in Australia! It was my wife's car when we first got together. (It had front wheel drive too - another of my hates). These bombs lost their resale value so fast that it didn't take long before even minor repairs were barely economical. (Replace a computer? No way... just run it til it stops completely, then call the wrecker). If it had had an ordinary carb I might have got another 50,000 ks out of it. As it was, it went from new to scrap in little more than 10 years, and it barely had a scratch on it.

A sidekick and Geo/Chevy tracker are the same. They both have IFS where the Samurai has a solid front axle. JC

If you have not already, look on Ebay and CraigsList for a major metro
area. I see there is one in Hammond, LA on Ebay now, but it seems high for
its condition. Also the IFS Trackers can be cheaper, if that works for
you. Off-roaders prefer the solid axle Sammis.

Last year my son was looking for his first car. After poking around for a project the only thing I found that was interesting for a student was a 98 tracker. It's fun to drive.

I saw the one on ebay but he wants to much i talked to him before he it put on ebay. I had found a sammy tintop but the guy sold it the day i was going to pick it up. I will keep watching ebay and craigslist to see what comes up.

I looked and looked for mine, and eventually I found a cheap
project 88 tintop. I was hoping for a rollover, an automatic, and
even a later IFS Tracker.

Anyway the body has been removed and recylcled or sold.
