I recently bought a house with a 2 acre yard. I have about 35 trees throughout the yard. Most around the outsidewith a few in the middle. I purchased a JD x300. I borrowed a friend's JD 42" lawn sweeper and want to buy one. What a time saver! Is the JD 42" sweeper as good as the Craftsman high speed sweeper? I read all kinds of raves about the Craftsman unit, but never hear anything about the john deere one. I am assuming its the same, made by agri fab? I'd like to get the greene one of course, cause it matches.

Also, I am thinking I will need a thatch and spreader unit. Will a drag behind dethatcher be good enough, or should I get the one that pulls plugs out of the ground? (Will my tractor handle the plug pulling unit)? On the spreader I will just get a John Deere, can't imagine the brand makes any difference on these units. I also have the multch kit on the JD.

Another question- can you mow with the multch kit while you run the sweeper picking stuff up?

Sorry for all the questions, its my first big yard, and first lawn tractor. Thanks for all the help!

I would think you can pull the sweeper with the mulch kit installed. I have an older 38" Agri-Fab sweeper that works just fine (haven't used it in a few years, but still works) and it would be fine for picking up thatch if you go that route. If you get a de-thatcher- be ready for a big pile of old grass to dispose of. The core aerator (plugger) would be ok as well behind your Deere, what color of these attachments is your preference. Any brand should last as long as you are willing to take care of them.

Good Luck!

I guess you noticed from the above post that a dethatcher and an aerator are two entirely different implements.

If you'd like to see the ones I use, see the links in my post (Post #7) in this thread.
