Ok, I have narrowed the selection to one of these ZTR's. I need some input in the form of plus and minus of each from those in the know. Of course there are better mowers for sure, but these are within my price range. I have done searches, not much on the swisher out there. Looks as the swisher is availble from sears and the CC would be purchased from a CC dealer. I need to pull the trigger soon so help me out please. Thanks in advance for your replies. chuck

Swift,
Came home today with the Swisher 2660 Z Max ZTR...Soon as I loaded it on the trailer the skies let loose...In Florida? Summer? no....
So, when things dry out I can give you some feedback...:D
I also looked at the Cubs but was leaning to the swisher due to the beefier deck system...The stamped deck on my JD lasted 2 years..bent and broken hanger welds...I was hard on it yes...And so I knew that for me I would look at a different deck system for the next mower...
Got the swisher at Tractor Supply /TSC...

Thanks for the feedback Scott. What part of the sunshine state do you reside? Also did some looking on TSC and couldnt find the swisher, sears is the only place i could find one. Looking forward to your report of the machine..

Swift, The morning was nice and dry here in Starke Florida...HUMID but dry enough to run the new toy. WOW!!!..I have never driven a ZTR so after a few minutes tooling around the yard (4 acres) I was ready to cut...Very Solid machine. Only ran her 3/4 throttle and set the cutting height to about 3.5 inches..Setting numbers are 1 thru 8 and i believe i set it at 4 or 5...Never had a problem...The back 2 acres where the house sits and most of the trees are usually takes me 2.5 hours to mow with my old JD 14 HP 42" cut...The new 26 HP 60 " Swisher took me 1.5 hrs...:D I wonder how fast the travel speed really is..I think the manual states 6 mph but it sure feels faster!.:D ..I went to the swisher website and they dont show the new 2007 26 HP 60"model -red...They show the 2006 25 hp 60" -black.?..My TSC here in Starke has moved quite a few of these since Ive been watching them...50", 60",66"....They also carry the Cub Cadets...I like the wash port feature of the cubs but that was the only thing...The swisher 26 has a OHV twin Briggs. Twin Eaton Hydro drive units commercial grade..Also was on sale $3799 from $3999..I missed the sale previous they were 10% off if you appiled for and used the TSC card for purchase...:(
Anyway, hope this helps-I could only mow half today due to more rain and other to-do's before back to work tommorow.
Let me know if there is something else youd like to know about it!
Scott-

Thanks for the report Scott. I picked mine up today, 2660 red w/blk deck, TSC on sale at 3799. Cut my mowing time in half, of course i was doing the whole thing with a 30" wheelhorse. I think it will get even faster once i take full advantage of the cutting width and improve my driving skills. Almost took out a telephone box on side of road when i forgot about the deck sticking out the side. Thanks again.

Swift, yes certainly think getting used to the width and controls will yield faster mow time...I may take the discharge chute off...seems to sit lower than deck at the tip...ran mine tonight! yes much faster...

I am thinking of buying a swisher 2560 also and was wondering how it is still holding up for you guys after a couple of months? Also did you have to buy a seperate piece for the chute area in order for it to mulch?

I dont mulch with mine, so no help in that way. I leave the deflector folded over and out of the way allowing up close and personal with either side. I am pleased with the performance after several mowings. If you get the front wheels in loose sand (as on my new mound for septic and try to reverse, the extra pull as the front wheels pivot will cause your rear wheels to dig in if not too carful, not a problem if you are prepared for it. Yesterday i timed a yard that took 2 hours on a 30" wheel horse at 50 mins and i still forget and end up overlaping too much. The good thing is that i am not as scrunched up and tired after mowing and dont dread the task as in the past. I think you would be pleased for a "poor man's ztr". Let us know what you get and how you like it. chuck

Yes and still loving mine also-Havent mulched with her either..I Also ride with the deflector folded over it doesnt go anywhere due to the weight/size of it....No complaints still-I dropped the air pressure a few pounds as it was a bumpier ride than the tractor I had...helped some of the bounce...My property is very sandy in areas and it tends to be a dusty mow job..Probly gonna sharpen the blades soon...Starts up every time no problems...I need to hang a beer holder on it..:D
ps-Swift and I have the 2660....

Thanks for the info. I can't find any info on the 2660. It looks like right now I can get the 2560 for $3400 delivered from sears so I will probably go ahead and get it. Do either of you have to drive up hills while mowing?
