I purchased a used 2003 TC-33D last July. As I write this reply I am on the phone with the dealer. I am replacing the switch for the THIRD time in a year. so far the dealer has covered all costs. Switch price is $47.02. Dealer is shipping new switch out and trying to warrenty the last one before billing me. He talked about installing a relay of some sort to avoid current returning to the switch and burning it out. Anyway NH has issued an assist to the dealer. They may be able to help.

I don't recall ever claiming to be an electrical engiener. I simply was attempting to pass along what I was told, If I lost someting in the translation, maybe you would be willing to share your wisdom and help both of us newcomers, or is that not what this forum does?

Not trying to belittle you, but I have never seen a starter switch that doesn't pick-up a relay (some times part of the bendix mounted right on the starter)of some kind or another. I wonder if the dealer knows what he is talking about. Was this a sales person or service tech? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Nessmuck, if NH has issued an asist bulletin to the dealer, it means that engineers have analyzed the problem and there is something in the design that could cause it. The switch failure is probably a symptom of the problem rather than the actual problem. I'm not sure what "asist" stands for, but it's an acronym rather than the actual word "assist." If you could ask your dealer what the asist number is, perhaps you could tell Scottgardner so he could tell his dealer about the asist bulletin. That's assuming your dealer actually can find an asist bulletin to help him with your tractor's problem.

I wasn't trying to give you a hard time.. It's simply that what you said.. eg.. what you were told.. is more or less complete electrical giberish.. without some supporting information.. or a frame of context.

"It would be like walking into your doctor and telling him that your wife said that her shoulder knee bone was feeling kind of backwards and soft..."

No much to go on eh?

I've never heard the phrase 'current back into a switch' before. If the mechanic would be good enough to provide a bit more info, it would be helpfull. In all reality.. the tech doesn't understand the problem fully.. but can reead a repair bulleting enough to know what parts to replace, which, on paper anyway.. should fix the issue... I.e. mechanic via cookbook..

Again.. sorry for the confusion, and no offense intended.. and yes.. this forum is for hashing out issues like this. it just doesn't help when the tech giving you the info has a poor command of the english language.. or a poor understanding of the actual problem, and the electrical theory behind the issue.. etc.
