This doesn't seem like it should be this difficult of a quest, but I'm having trouble finding a switch that fits in a 1" round hole.

I am doing all kinds of upgrades to my classic Terratrac crawler loader. One of the upgrades is adding headlights. The dash (pictured) has two empty holes that measure 1" diameter. Either of these would be great to mount a switch for the headlights, but finding said switch has proven difficult. There are a lot of good switches out there that all fit a 1/2" hole. If I have to I can weld a plug into the hole and re-drill a 1/2 hole, but I much rather get one that just fits the hole I have.

Any help (or simply commiseration) is appreciated.

As a side note, I picked up Bosch triple gauge set to replace the existing 2" gauges.

Toggle switch with a thin base plate with a 1/2" hole in it.
Fabbing one would be simple and easy.
Base plate would go under the dash.

1" conduit opening knockout plug, with a 1/2" hole drilled or punched in the center for the more common 1/2" switches.

I've used reducing washers made for conduit knockout plugs. They are real thin and come in several different sizes.

Those holes appear to be made for a 22mm (7/8" diam) selector switch. They have the key slot to keep the switch from turning. Most electrical supply places will have something that would work but you will want one that is rated NEMA 4 (waterproof).

Use a couple of 1/2" fender washers and sandwich them on the available switch.

This is exactly what you have. There is a world of 22 mm switch and light selections. You can get rotary, pushbutton, rocker, toggle.

IF you buy online specify UPS or FEDEX shipping ... USPS is falling apart, they are 6 day behind in their promised date to me for a package and can not even tell me where package is stalled....

Dale

Yup......11 days to get a very small priority mail package from Calif. to MA.

The easy button would be to install a hole plug like THIS and drill the hole to what you need. That's the first one to pop up, I know it's a 6 pack but your local hardware store might have one similar. You could even install it then bend the tabs out so the plug doesn't pop out on it's own.
