Symptoms of clutch going out Bolens/Iseki

I have a Hydrostatic G152, and today when I was plowing my lane in low gear, the tractor seemed to be lagging. By lagging I mean it didnt seem to be as fast for as high a engine revving/tranny whine as it was in the past, but im not certain as I have tire chains on it and it may have been spinning slightly due to ice that was like glass under the snow and I just didnt notice it spinning causing the feeling. I decided to try high gear then, and the tractor felt like a Ferrari, it was real fast, almost scary fast due to the icy lane.

Is there something that would cause low gear to slip or whine that I can check or a way to test it, like maybe the clutch or something else tranny related just for piece of mind?

Also, I almost forgot, my tractor has always made a sound from the engine/transmission, I dont know how to explain it other than a "working sound" when the tractor has to work harder, for example, my drive has a slight incline upward coming back in to the house, when I go that way that working sound is louder, as soon as I crest the incline and it levels the tractor quiets down greatly, when its in low on the incline it wasnt as loud, in high it is louder since the gear is higher I believed. I used to really hear this when mowing my property with the Bolens in high gear uphills. I assume this noise is normal though?
