Hey,

Been doing some research for upcoming oil changes. We have decided to go synthetic on our MF 1523. We are going with Shell Rotella T Synthetic 5W40 once the colder weather hits come fall, but was looking at Mobil 1 to run during the summer, and it appears they do not sell a synthetic diesek grade. All of their heavier 10W30 & 15W40 are for gasoline engines. What are you all running?

Warranties are nice to have, so we want to be careful.

TIA,

Will

I think the 10w30 mobile 1 is CF rated, that's what I'm using.

Mobil 1 has a 5W40--I think--that is diesel and turbo rated. WalMart sells it for approx $23 per gallon. I use it now but may switch to Rotella synthetic.
Of course the best deal is JD synthetic in 5 gallon pails for $97.

Mobil has Delvac 1 which is a heavier diesel rated oil. The same oil is also packaged as Diesel Truck and SUV oil, or something like that. Amsoil also has a heavier, 5w-40 diesel rated oil.

I use Amsoil ACD 10w-30/30, full synthetic heavy duty diesel oil. (TBN 12)
(The 5w-40 has a lower TBN only 8, The 5w-40 is only better if you live in the arctic.)

The new Mobil 1 0w30 is diesel rated, same as the 5w30 and 5w40. It's what I plan to use next change in all the vehicles and air cooled engines except for the 25 year old Benz. Still have some 5w40 for its next change. If I'm short its required 7 quarts, I'll make up with the 0w30.

Thanks. -50c up here does happen when mother nature gets mad at us, so thats why we will run Rotella 5W40 in the winter. 10W30 or 15W40 when the summer hits.

Thanks to all who replied.

It there ACD is API approved, I am not buying it. I would/will take there series 3000 or there SSO. YMMV

I dislike Mobil BIGTIME since there CS line killed it for me. They are worse then HP or DELL for questions.

I'm running Mobil1 5w40 in my Kubota. I don't live in the arctic but I can see it from here.:) I will switch to Amsoil 3000 5w30 in fall.

You need 0w30 for -50C. Any heavier (than 0 grade at low temp) will be very slow in getting lubrication to the valve train at startup where almost all wear is encountered. Imperial Oil did some tests before they/Exxon decided to develop 0 grade oils. They put transparent valve covers on an engine and put it in a -40 C room overnight. Then they started the engine and filmed with various oils. Zero grade (0w20 was only one available at that time; I think) was the ONLY one that didn't result in a smoky hot valve train, because oil just wouldn't get picked up and pumped quickly enough by the oil pump by other oils.

Doubt you need a 40 grade at operating temperature. Check your owner's manual. Mine says 30 grade is fine, even in Virginia summers.
