I have read these posts till I am blue in the face and am more unsure than before. I have a 2310 with 14 hours on it and I am sure that I want to run Synthetic oil in it very soon as I have a lot of experience with Mobil 1 in my vehichles. I have a friend with a Kubota that runs regular Mobil 1 in it with no issues but I dont think that is the way to go from what I have read. Is Delvaco the Mobil for Diesels? or should I go with a AMSOIL product. I dont care what it costs I just want superior protection. Any help would be great. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

First, welcome to TBN!

This was your first mistake. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Any oil that meets the API specifications listed in your owners manual is fine. According to the Mobil1 site, it meets the "Requirements for Diesel Powered Vehicles where an API CF or API CD is Recommended".

In other words, you don't want a degree in petroleum engineering and don't want to worship at the alter of oil analysis minutiae? /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif Then Mobil1, Amsoil or Delvac would all be fine.

You have my vote for Red Line Oil if you dont mind paying a little extra.
see www.redlineoil.com
We take jabs here all the time about whats the "best" synthetic.
Though we may disagree on the extended drain philosophy, I think gsxr1100 is much qualified to give you the low down on specs.
What I read "between" the lines is:
RedLine a group 5= really good but costs a bit more
Amsoil a group 4= you dont miss out on alot if you use their better one
Then theres the "why bother" bargain brand snthetics.
Im not sure what group Mobil 1 is in but gave up hope when their gear oil made my wifes STI transaxle have downshift clash immediately after drain and fill at 2000 miles, and then on another customers WRX at about the same time. Possibly not enough r&d in the gear lube recipe.
I'm likely screwed up on my group numbers, but try to give you a simple answer.

As tractor stated, Redline is 100% group 4 but Amsoil is group 4/5. Not all #4.

There is no best oil out there. Yes I said it. It depemds on what YOU are looking for. For me Amsoil wins hands down in all areas.

I use Amsoil for longer drains & is the way to go. For shorter intervals Redline is fine. Again for me the price of redline is too high (almost double) for what I get Amsoil for. Plus you do not see Redline people doing longer drains. Most are under 10K miles. I am over that.

As I have been doing more homework on Redlinesince I like it. It seems they have LOTS of moly. While this is good with racing people or extreme environments, put lots of moly together and ZDDP (Zinc & Phos) and when it breaks down you have higher then normal OXD, Nit and your add pkg needs to compensate. That I think is why Moly is very low on Amsoil and some Mobil oils.

But if you are doing shorter drains many oils are fine. Just on another note, you need more filter, more used oil, more time to drain, etc. It is a trade off.

John Deere has Synthetic for Diesel I think it's about $6.5/qt. Look on there web suite or at the dealer. That is what Iam going to change over to in my JD770 next spring then change oil and filter ever 2years. If you want to use mobil 1 the truck/suv labeled bottles are the same as Delvac and wally-mart has that in 5qt jug for $20.00

Per mobil's numbers, it is the same (SUV and Delvac)
