magjim, I have a TC 30, bought it new in Jun 04 and have a bit over 500 hours on it .... so far, I haven't had to do anything except routine servicing (which I do myself) and I love the rig.
You never mentioned where you live (or perhaps I missed it), and location does seem to make a big difference in price and (sometimes) dealer attitude.
If you are anywhere near NC, I suggest you take a look at TarHeel Tractor -- now or next spring when you say you need the tractor. I live in central VA and it was worth the ride to get the deal. It has been a while since I priced a tractor, but the deal you quoted seems high to me.
Some folks will advise against buying from a non local dealer as sometimes (often?) the local dealer won't want to do business with you for repairs, especially warranty work. Perhaps, but so far my local dealer has been supportive, but then again, I've never had to go to him for repairs .. just the occasional filter and such (it is a simple and rugged machine).
It is worth noting that NH dealers are required under their contract with NH to do service work on any piece of New Holland equipment that is under warranty, regardless of purchase origin. Of course, they can still blow you off the lot if you show up with a tractor you purchased elsewhere.
