- 1979 Ford 1500, Toro 455D 10' mower w/ Renault diesel,
I have 2 T1560 ride on mowers I just bought. The second is for parts, but I'm considering finding a motor for it (the case/block is broken). So far, the working unit seems great, the grass catcher works great and it does a nice cut, especially for something so badly neglected.
Does anyone ever change the HST fluid? I believe there is a filter screen...not sure where. Do you take that out and clean it? Is there a drain plug, or is it a major job to take it apart to re&re fluid? [rhetorical question, but why do they make it so hard to change fluid?]
A bit disappointed that an oil filter is an "optional" add-on kit. I have ordered the kit. I assume it mounts under the air filter box, with filter spinning on near the carb float bowl.
I changed plug, air & fuel filters, oil. Wheel bearings are shot and so is a tie rod. Are there any other maintenance items or things to keep an eye on?
These use a Kawasaki 14 HP motor, seems to be the exact same engine that John Deere uses in several of their mowers. My second mower is good, except the motor is FUBAR. A local guy has a Kohler 15HP engine that came out of a JD LT155 mower. Would I be able to swap this out and put it in, relatively easily? Ironically, I had a JD 155 about 1-2 years ago. It ran good, Kohler is a good engine, but the mower deck configuration was awful. I chewed through belts like crazy. No matter how I tried to trim bolts and reduce/avoid belt rub, the main belt always found a way to rub on something and never lasted. It was a royal PITA.
sorry, too much info and lots of Qs!! thanks for any help.
