Well, I pulled my tracks yesterday per the instructions from SSdoxie. Almost easy. I started to change final drive oil but had problems.

2. I have no service manual. There are two holes about 180 degrees apart, under the sprocket and just behind the flange at 1 and 7 o団lock. I looked for another fill or drain hole locations but found none. Are these the fill/drain holes?

1. The 1/8 pipe plugs for left drain stripped out the hex opening for the Allen wrench. I got it out by carefully drilling and easy out. I did not want to get shavings inside, so I rigged a pressure regulator and put 5 psi Air to the drain hole so chips would blow out if I broke thru. I did not drill thru the plug, and easy out worked. The right side is also stripped. Is there an easier way?

3. Oil came out black. Being smarter than Bobcat, I decided to flush out the hub with brake parts cleaner and then 90 w gear oil before putting in the expensive stuff. HOWEVER, more 90w oil went in than came out. I知 not sure how this can happen. Is the drain plug above the minimum oil level? Where could the oil have gone?

The sprocket teeth are getting thin. How thin can I let them get before replacement?

Aftermarket vs. Bobcat sprockets?

The little bit of old oil that stays in there with drain plug at 7 o'clock is insignificant. That black oil just shows how much heat is generated in that bearing and why 500 hr. service is so essential.
Those Allen screw type plugs are pain especially on the first service, a little bit of heat and sharp blow with a hammer helps to break them loose before stipping out the head. Since yours were already stripped, someone tried to service it and either gave up or put the old plugs back in.
The 90w oil you put into flush is thicker than the synthetic so would take time to work down through the bearing. Only palce it could "disappear" would be into the drive motor if seal between motor and outer housing is leaking. If that was the case you should have gotten more oil out the drain than 1/2 bottle when you first drained it. One way to quickly check for this leak would be to leave the drain plug out, start the machine, keep brakes locked and gentle pull on the steering lever (not hard just ligtly) to put small load on the motor. If hydraulic oil starts coming out the seal is bad and outer housing needs to be fixed or replaced.

Thanks for both of your replies. Very useful, and right when I need it.

Again, thanks for all you do to help people on this forum. You are a great reference.

I would guess you are a Bobcat service dept. manager or something like that.

How far can I let the sprocket wear?
