Afternoon everyone! I bought a 2007 T2410 with 400 hours on it. It didn't do a lot of work and did a decent amount of sitting in a storage barn. I ran it with no issues for close to 8 months. Since using it more often now I have had an intermittent starting issue. First time it happened I was able to tow it on a trailer and run it to the place that was putting the FEL on for me and they said they changed out a solenoid and it fixed the issue. Well I had the same issue again, called up the place that did the work and I asked them if they noticed anything else and they said no, so I got another solenoid to see maybe if it was a fluke and it didn't change anything. So I dug into it deeper. I started with bypassing the safety's one by one, no change. Then I started mapping out wires and checking voltages, while doing that I had the brake off and it just started beeping at me. Bam, it started. Ran it for another hour or two, turned it off and same issue. Started where I left off and checking voltages and bam, started beeping again. Started and no issues for a month or two. Well now it is really bad. I think I have narrowed it down to the safety controller under the dash. If I leave the parking brake off and disconnect the male part of the controller input I can wiggle and move slightly until I get the parking brake beep. Steady hands and the occasional little wiggle and I can get it started. Once it's started I have no issues with it running, just getting it started. I tried using compressed air to get dirt and dust out, cleaned it up, checked the connections the best I could on both sides and put dielectric grease in it. It seems to work as soon as I put the grease in but after that I have to do it again. I think I have narrowed it down to the safety controller but for $537 I want to be 100% that it will fix it. Any one else had the same issues or have any additional tips in getting it to keep working? Sorry for the long post and thanks!

$537 and you're still playing a guessing game that it's the component and not the mating connector. I would need to be 100% in love with the safety controller concept to go that route. You know the tractor starts when the "connection" is right.

I would be inclined to simplify some of the starting circuits if it were mine, but it's your tractor and your choice. And yes, I know "Safety Sam" lurks, but $500 is $500.

Similar problems over the years, sometimes it is a broken wire in the harness. Usually in the first big bend. Normally can find by isolating each wire and holding at the connector, and pulling firmly 2 or 3 inches back from the connector.

Best,

@Harry in Ky That's why I was trying to see if any one had any 100% ways of checking it. If it were just me operating the tractor I wouldn't have much of an issue but I have three children soon that may be operating it around the farm and $500 is not worth it for me to put them at risk.

@dirttoys That was my next step to see if isolating each wire individually at the connector I may be able to find the culprit.

100% way of checking it? Not likely, other than trying a different unit or trying your unit on a different tractor. Neither option is very appealing, I know.

Again, it's your call. I'm not interested in putting anyone's kid in danger, but there are ways of circumventing these modules without doing that. It's only the cranking circuit that's affected, right? Everything else with the module functions as advertised? (Assuming) all the safety switches and related wiring still operate as intended, then a bit of creative wiring on your part should allow the tractor to start and the safety factor can still be retained.

I grew up around tractors that had no electrical systems at all, let alone safety circuits, and I'm still around to tell about it.

@Harry in Ky When I go to start it the glow plug light is not illuminated and no crank. Power to the starter and the fuel is cut off. I originally tried starting it by jumping the starter and realized it had shut the fuel off. So I know for 100% that starter power and fuel modules are cut off. Do you have any suggestions on bypassing that module to keep the sensors intact and have it start?

I have no doubt that I could make that work. Yes, I would need to locate and study a wiring diagram for your particular model/version (as there are probably more than one). Depending on the complexity of the module you're bypassing it may require an extra relay added somewhere, but probably not. Do you by chance have any manuals that came with the tractor that contain diagrams? If not, I'm sure they are out there somewhere. It's a 2007 model? The transmission version and tractor serial number may come into play,

@Harry in Ky Yeah I have the manual with the wiring diagram, I am at work today but can turn it to a PDF and send it to you with all that other information. Thank you!

I didn't see where anyone else brought this up, but have all 4 ends of the big battery cables been REMOVED, cleaned and re-installed?

No they haven't been removed and cleaned, I can try that to but why would that have anything to do with the intermittent and touchy working safety controller and starting?
