TYM T330 w/ lt300 loader
Hello all. Have not posted in a while. Been struggling trying to find a starter for my tractor. Solenoid is clicking but no start at 30 degree or below. The OEM starter is $500 from tym. Will any starter that fits a d1503 diesel work? I have seen as low as $89.00 on ebay. They look different but they only have two connections rather the 3. Please advise.

I would take it to a starter and alternator rebuild shop. Having the original starters rebuilt almost always is better than any aftermarket one available.

I thought about that. Don't see many of those places anymore. I will need to dig a little.

I needed a new Bendix for a Mitsubishi tractor. I went to a local shop and they'd sell me a Bendix but for just a little more they provided a whole new starter. The owner knew where to look and what to look for and got an exact replacement though not Mitsubishi brand. It was made in Mexico but worked well.

Depending on how mechanically inclined you are, you could take the solenoid off by undoing the two Phillips head screws in your second picture, and clean the contacts.

When you put power to the 1/4 spade connector, it energizes the coil in the solenoid. That pushes the starter gear forward into the ring gear on the flywheel, at the same time it pushes a contact ring back towards the big contacts at the end, in picture one, and connects the battery hot to the starter motor feed. The contacts, and the ring can get corroded, and cause resistance. Taking the solenoid apart and sanding them back to shine with a some 400 grit sandpaper will generally refresh things. You can bench check by energizing the solenoid and checking for resistance between the screws for the battery lead and the motor lead. There should be no resistance between the big lead screws when the solenoid is engaged. And infinite resistance when the solenoid is not engaged.

There is probably a post on YouTube which will sho you how to clean the contacts in a starter solenoid.

BrianMO, Just curious which route you took for the starter.
