I had notice the tach time on my 2310 seemed to go faster then it should. I timed my tach and it worked out to .1 hr = 6min @ 2000 RPM. That is low considering the PTO speeds are around 2500 and the mower book says full throttle 2600. If you are mowing every 1 hr you mow the tach will show 1.3 hrs. I'm sure every one with a tach hour meter not the Hobbs meter has the same readings. Meaning we service our tractors sooner then earlier models and when we sell the hrs will be higher also. It would have been more realistic in the 2300-2500 RPM.

tx2310,

I may be mising something here, but .1 hour should equal 6 minutes - at least that's how my attorney billed me; ten times that amount would have 1.0 hour = 60 minutes.

Have you found that the Hobbs meter reflects a different time ratio based upon engine speed?

If not, unless I'm missing something, sounds like you are OK.

The tach on the newer 23xx has the hour meter in the mechanical tach. The hour meter is actually a rpm counter in a mechanical tach. The faster you run the fast the counter turns over. If you run it at 2000 rpm 1hr =1hr on the tach, at 2600 rpm 1hr = 1.3hr on the tach. The Hobbs meter on the older 23xx runs on time not RPMs. I hope this makes sense.

Larger tractors often have hour meters that are linked to PTO speed so they only register real time if you are running at PTO rpm. Smaller tractors like the 2300, and BX series just record run time as yours is doing. I think you will find that true at all rpm's.

That is what I am use to. The PTO speeds on the 23xx both rear and mid is about 2500 RPM but the mechanical tach is recording 1hr at 2000 RPM.

That's an interesting observation. I'll have measure mine. When I use the FEL my rpms are always less than 2,000 since the FEL doesn't need the higher engine speeds to operate fine, but I use my 2300 mostly for snowblowing and mowing and that always occurs at max throttle.

I read that the tach is based on the engine running at 2000RPM or around there,so if you idleing or running flat out your tach will remain the same. I think
