Does anyone else have an aftermarket 3 3/8" tach installed in their RTV speedometer "spot" in the dash?

I'm thinking about buying one; kind of like the one in the link below. Why would I install a tach on my RTV? I am retired and don't have a jeep to install a tach into.....

OEM Tachometer. Private Label Tachometer. Custom Tachometer.

Where are you going to tap into a clean tach output signal? Can this tach use an inductive pickup on a plug wire for the signal?

Yes, It says it can. I just bought one and it is enroute so I can't be certain until I getter on, but the product info claims that it has an inductive lead and it is a vairable tach for 1 to 12 cylinder engines.

I hit over 20 sites and I found one in my price-range; which is in the "nice to have catagory". We shall see.

Looks like you will need to get an adapter to get signal.... hopefully I'm just missing something I've done that before:laughing:

Let us know how it goes, that's a mod I wouldn't mind doing myself just to have it. :D

Well I got the tachometer in and it works fine, I dono how perfectly accurate it is but it works and matches what I think the spec RPMs are.

I'm still tweaking all the wiring ties. I didn't use the instrument company that I linked in my first post and I don't feel like naming the make/model at large but I would PM or email it to anyone that is interested.

Basically: I used a 3-3/8" in-dash 12volt, neg-ground tach that stated it would read 1-12 cylinders and had the inductive-read option.

I used the speedometer hole in the dash and the speedometer power and ground leads under the hood and the inductive clamp option onto one of the sparkplug wires. I also used the orange lead to illuminate the tach when the headlamps are on. I taped off the purple wire.

I had to splice the inductive-shielded cable provided as the one that came with the product was too short and I wanted to run the cables through the conduit raceway in the floor, as I did with the CB antenna and rear work light.

Done deal for less than $75.00 including S&H.
