Did some reading and asking and found that this job can be a bear, or just time consuming.
Got the seal, and oil from the dealer. It was easier than buying an equivalent oil for not much less. My tractor is a Sync Shift, so I apparently didnt need the lo-vis stuff.
Some photos of the fun...
And I hate chipmunks. My tractor stays inside, but the garage it stays in, is more like a shed it seems.
And the seal was obviously bad.
Everything came apart nicely, the only issue I had was the stupid roll pins for the diff lock, and brake lever. The levers came right off, but the roll pins DID NOT want to budge. I reluctantly reinstalled them, but thought about replacing them with bolts. Overall, if anyone is contemplating doing this themselves, you will need a friend to give you a hand in some cases if you dont have a way to remove the ROPS alone. And my Snap-On Impact wouldnt budge the ROPS mounting bolts. Took me about 2 hours to tear it all down, and about 3 to reinstall it all, not hurrying. Im fairly mechanically inclined, but I think anyone with some common sense could do it.
After looking around, I noticed someone had the other side apart. Bolts missing paint, and RTV around the axle housing. I purchased this machine with just over 1200 hours on it. Im at 1460 now, so I assume the other axle seal had gone out before then.
The only thing that would make this tractor better would be some R4 Tires.... And a CAB!
Anyone want to trade their R4's for my R3's? haha
